In order to protect key community infrastructure, Fairfield is focusing on improving its existing system of dikes and tide gates, increasing their capacity to evacuate flood waters.

Currently, the Town is constructing a flood control dike around its sewage treatment plant, with its own electric micro-grid. Other projects under consideration aim to protect the Riverside Drive area, install a pumping station at South Benson, and create dunes from Penfield Beach to Shoal Point.
