Originally was J.M. Hawkins blacksmith shop (1867), later to be used as Thomas Baker's horse-shoeing shop. Then the town took it over as a jail with 2 cells (Jailer was Captain Hayes). Then it was closed for years. It was then owned by A. Mayse and was used as a Scout lodge. O.T. Sherwood had horses and a carriage there from 1895-1900. Formerly at the northwest corner of Pequot and Westway Road (West Main), the building was moved in the 1950's to a location adjoining the house at 808 Pequot Avenue in Southport. As of 1975, it was used as an office by Robb B. O'Reilly.
