Description

This view of Fire Station No. 1 on Reef Road was taken in 1933. The town’s first volunteer fire company was organized in 1893, following fires in two different churches. It was followed by the creation of volunteer fire companies in Southport, Tunxis Hill, Stratfield, and Greenfield Hill. The town hired its first paid firefighter in 1918.
