Benjamin Betts' Store stood on the Boston Post Road (then Spring Street) at the present site of the Mecurio Building (1508 Post Rd). This photo is looking east with the store on the north side of the street.

Disbrow's Store
Business--General Store--Fairfield, Conn.
Fred Disbrow's Store - Meats and Groceries. Situated on Main Street between the Savings Bank and the Pequot Inn in Southport, Conn, the building was erected by Frederick A. Disbrow. The east side of the building was rented to Charles E. Bulkely as a Confectionery and Ice Cream Parlor. On the right in the photo: clerk Theodore Becker and dog Prince.

Domenico Mercurio's Store - Fruits, Vegetables, Confections. Located at 1508 Post Road in Fairfield.
Mercurio's Market was founded in 1900 by Domenic Mercurio Sr., who used to sell fruits and vegetables door-to-door from a horse and wagon. The original store was located where the Fairfield Public Library stands today. In 1913, the market was moved to 1508 Post Road. The store operated for 105 years before it closed in 2005.

Pickett's Store
Business--general store--Fairfield, Conn.
E. W. S. Pickett's Store. Built 1894, burned 1911. Pickett's had the first plate glass windows. Fairfield Post Office was located in Pickett's Store. Pickett's was located on the northeast corner of Sanford Street and Boston Post Road. Hyde's Pond is at the far left of the photo.
Pickett himself wore many hats within Fairfield society, serving as a fireman, a postmaster, and a real estate and insurance agent.
