Description

McGarry's Blacksmith Shop, located on the NW corner of Sanford Street and Post Road. Built between 1830s - 1850s, the shop stood until 1949

McGarry's Blacksmith Shop was opened in the mid 1800's by Michael Fox. Fox taught his trade to his apprentice, John J. McGarry, who ended up falling in love with Fox's daughter. McGarry ended up marrying Fox's daughter, and the shop was left to McGarry after Fox died. The shop was owned by the McGarry family until 1949, when it was torn down and replaced by a pharmacy.
