Rolock Inc. was founded in Southport in 1924 as DeMattia Wire Works. The company made wire mesh baskets and trays for industrial heat treating processes. The company's stock was bought by Roger Wells in 1925. Wells served as president of the company until 1929 when he passed on the position to his son, Roger Wells II. Roger II changed the company name to Rolock in 1929. The plant moved to its Kings Highway location in the mid 1940's.
